Remedial Measures For Unemployment In India
The problem of unemployment in India is alarming. Government of India took many measures to fight the problem of growing unemployment. Therefore, different long term and short term remedial measures, both combined, are a lasting solution to solve the problem of of unemployment.
These measures are discussed below:
A. Long-Term Measures
1. Rapid industrialisation
Rapid industrialisation can be done by developing new industries and expanding existing industries. Some basic industries like defence, chemical, power generation, iron and steel industries etc, should be set up.
2. Encouragement to small enterprises
Small scale industries should be developed for providing opportunities for self employment. Loans, training facilities, raw material, infrastructure and market facilities, etc should be provided to them.
3. Employment exchanges
These should be opened in rural as well as in urban areas to provide guidance to people searching employment.
4. Re-orientation of education system
India should reconstruct the education system and modify according to changing environment of the country. There must be vocationalisation of education.
5. Reconstruction of agriculture
Irrigation facilities should be improved so that agriculture should not be at the the mercy of monsoon.
B. Short-Term Measures
Following are some of the main measures taken by the the government to remove the problem of unemployment in the country:-
1. Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP)
2. Training of Rural Youth for Self-Employment (TRYSEM)
3. Jawahar Rozgar Yojana(JRY)
4. Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA)
5. Rural Landless Employment Guarantee Programme (RLEGP)
